It took just three years to build one of the masterpieces of Barcelona's modernism . A true jewel that has seen world-class artists perform on its stage for over a century and was recognised as a World Heritage Site by UNESCO in 1997. A sounding board made of glass and iron. We are talking about the Palau de la música catalana , the work of Lluís Domènech i Montaner .

Take a careful stroll through the Sant Pere district, because in the old town of Barcelona there was no room for large avenues and the Palau de la música catalana can go unnoticed. Visits to the Palau de la Música Catalana in Barcelona: tickets, opening hours and prices
We said that the Palau de la Música Catalana is located in the Sant Pere neighbourhood . We also said that it is located between buildings and narrow streets, so, to get there straight away, put on the map: Calle Sant Pere Més Alt, 8 . That is the original entrance to the building –and the only one until 1989– and where you can access the guided tours.

You can visit the Palau de la música catalana on your own or with a guided group from Friday to Sunday. For your own visit , the opening hours are from 10 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. and the entrance fee includes an audio guide that can be downloaded to your mobile phone for €10. With a guided tour , the opening hours are from 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. and the price is €14. Both visits last 50 minutes.

Although it is possible to buy tickets at the ticket office on Sant Pere Més Alt street – open from 10am to 3:30pm – it is advisable to buy them in advance online on the official website . This way you can ensure entry at the time that best suits you.

Visit the Palau de la Musica Catalana Ojo Pez Concert Hall
In 2018 and 2019, there was an open day with free entry to the Palau de la música catalana – in 2019 it was on November 24th. Obviously, there was no such event in 2020 and it is not yet known whether there will be one again from 2021. In any case, you can always enter the Foyer del Palau for free , the restaurant-cafeteria that occupies the ground floor of the building.

A little history of this marvel by architect Domènech i Montaner
It was 1904 when the Orfeó Català decided to build a building to house its headquarters and a concert hall for the choir . That same year, once the initiative had been approved, it bought the land of the cloister of the convent of San Francisco and commissioned the project to Domènech i Montaner – who, at that time, was researching for the Sant Pau hospital in Barcelona –. On 23 April 1905 the first stone was laid and the Palau de la música catalana was inaugurated on 9 February 1908. A little less than three years of work thanks to the use of reinforced concrete – according to the guide, the palau is the first building in Barcelona to use this material in its construction.
