Gavin Holder 2aThe Will Tanner Medal, awarded annually to the NSW Country Player of the Year, has been won for 2014 by Camden and Illawarrior captain Gavin Holder. After twice being runner up for the medal, Holder outpolled Country and Illawarra team mate Paul Tuala to win the award which was presented to Gavin in Adelaide after the Cockatoos last match against South Australia in July. Captain of the Cockatoos for the third season in a career of six seasons as a Cockatoo, Holder is currently playing some of the best football of his lengthy career.

After representing Country in Under 18’s

Camden Junior in 2001, Gavin played two seasons of First phone number list Grade Colts at the strong Sydney West Harbor club, followed by two years of grade which included a significant number of top grade appearances for the western Sydney club in the Shute Shield. Returning to Camden as Captain in 2006, Holder has gone on to be a long term member of the Illawarriors and Captain for the past 3 years. Throughout those years he has also been a regular member of the Country Cockatoos Squad and Captain as well for three campaigns.

After a Premiership with his beloved

Rams in 2013, Holder was delighted to win the Will Tanner Medal and has high hopes that it won’t be his last reward from Rugby with the 2014 Illawarra title still in his sights. One other trophy he would love to get his hands on is the Caldwell Cup which has eluded him after several Championship Final losses over the years. Hopefully for him and his teammates 2015 will be the year that he will get the chance to raise the silverware on behalf of the Illawarriors.

As a self-employed Excavation Contractor

Gavin is unable to make himself available for the Cockatoos end of Season Tour to Western USA later in the year. However wife Emma and kids Jamie and Charlie will be happy to have him around the house a bit at seasons end. But guys don’t get too comfortable with him around we’ll need him for one more crack at that elusive Caldwell Cup next year.
