The Huffington Post – also known simply as Huff Post – is currently the largest qatar email list news portal and blog aggregator in the world. Some say it is the future of information. The digital newspaper brings together diverse
Founded in the United States in 2005 by Greek Arianna Huffington , the newspaper continues to be a leader in the field of innovation. By crossing references, whether it be news coming from the squares of Cairo or the most advanced medical laboratories, the online newspaper brings together different sensibilities in the same place, encouraging the exchange of doubts and certainties.
Topics such as politics, business, entertainment, environment, technology, lifestyle, comedy, health and local news are part of the varied range that makes up the newspaper. With 6 international editions – including Huffington Post Brazil – editions in Greece , India and Arabia are also planned .
Today, Arianna Huffington continues to run the newspaper, despite having sold it for more than $300 million in 2011. With her eyes set on the future, the journalist's ambition knows no end. In 2014, her professional career proved to be enough for Forbes to consider her one of the most powerful women in the world.
In this post, we try to understand where the success of the world's largest online newspaper comes from and we paint a portrait of this woman who believes that resting is not a luxury reserved only for hippies and the rich .
Arianna Huffington: A Journey from Athens to New York
Arianna Stassinopoulou was born in Athens in 1950, the very birthplace of democracy and debate. Between the post-war prosperity and the arrival of the military dictatorship in 1967, she grew up aware of the circumstances in which she lived. Even at that time, even though the Internet did not exist, her passion for journalism had already been born thanks to her father, who was himself a journalist.
So, when she turned 16 – a moment that coincided with the national elections and the coup d'état plans in Greece – Arianna left her homeland for the United Kingdom. At Cambridge , she obtained a degree in Economics and rose to the presidency of the governing bodies of the Cambridge Union (in the history of academia, only two women had achieved such a privilege).
By the age of 20, he had published books and at 21 he began working for the BBC . The work was varied: he starred in live interviews, sent detailed reports from France on the most highly rated Michelin restaurants and had the opportunity to tour alternative music festivals . His European odyssey ended when he was 30 and he swapped London for New York. Rumor has it that he did so because of a love affair.
In the United States, she fell in love again and married Michael Huffington , a Californian politician who was eventually elected to the House of Representatives in Washington . She wrote biographies of Maria Callas and Pablo Picasso . She worked on radio and television, as a commentator and journalist for the National Review . Her audacity angered the feminist movement but, as she said in an interview with Expresso , “the female gender tends to be universally admired. But if a woman wants to be loved by everyone, she shouldn’t be a journalist.”
Huffington Post: the newspaper and the politics of rest
The Huffington Post was the biggest milestone in Arianna Huffington 's already impressive career in 2005. The value it reached in 5 years caught the attention of the world, including that of the multinational America Online (AOL) , which brings together several online publications and newspapers. At that time, Arianna Huffington decided to sell the company to AOL for more than 300 million dollars, while ensuring that the publication remained independent.
In 2014, after her new book “Thrice: The Third Metric to redefining success and creating a life of well-being, wisdom and wonder” , published in March, the Greek Orthodox was considered one of the most powerful women in the world.
In the book , she makes clear the philosophy of life she adopted after the accident she suffered. About 7 years ago, the very work she dedicated herself to would be the cause of her death. One day, she woke up and found herself lying on the floor of her office. The first thing she saw was a pool of blood. Later, she realized that she had suffered a sudden attack of exhaustion and had fainted. She slept between 4 and 5 hours a night , an unhealthy habit that she immediately changed.
This spirit doesn’t just apply to her. Arianna Huffington decided to convey to the Huffington Post the motto that “rest is for everyone.” Currently with over 800 employees, the online newspaper seeks to value its workers as human beings every day.
In the newsroom, health care is a priority : there is no work after hours, even if it is just a work-related email. The food is carefully prepared and healthy. The newsroom facilities have rooms for employees to take naps. There are yoga and meditation sessions. Three weeks of vacation and anyone who wants to volunteer can do so for three days without having to pay a cut in their monthly salary.
