Axios further notes that the Lemon8 ads appear to falkland islands b2b leads have been part of an earlier promotional campaign for the app, but ByteDance is now re-pushing them, in order to boost Lemon8 sign-ups as TikTok’s sale deadline looms.

As stated in the “Protecting Americans from Foreign Adversary Controlled Applications” act, which is the official document that’s being used to force TikTok’s sale in the U.S.:

“The term “foreign adversary controlled application” means a website, desktop application, mobile application, or augmented or immersive technology application that is operated, directly or indirectly (including through a parent company, subsidiary, or affiliate), by any of ByteDance, Ltd., TikTok, a subsidiary of or a successor to an entity identified in clause (i) or (ii) that is controlled by a foreign adversary; or an entity owned or controlled, directly or indirectly, by an entity identified in clause (i), (ii), or (iii).”

So it’s pretty clear, any app owned by ByteDance will be subject to removal in the U.S. once this is enacted.

Which is scheduled for January 19th, which means that unless something changes, TikTok will be removed from U.S. app stores on that date, along with Lemon8, CapCut, TikTok Studio, etc.

That could still change. Incoming U.S. President Donald Trump has filed an amicus brief with the Supreme Court to delay any final decision on TikTok till after his inauguration on the 20th, and if that’s granted, it would give Trump more opportunity to negotiate a deal to save the app. And Trump has repeatedly signaled that he is keen to do so, if given the chance.
