Paying via social media: is KLM taking a step forward in social commerce?

KLM introduced a new payment system yesterday that 'enables payment via social media'. The press release states that various products of the airline can be paid for via Facebook or Twitter. Judging from the online buzz, it seems like an innovative technique. But is that true? Is this social media payment system interesting at all or is it a nice move by the marketing department? I investigated.
Online Buzz
Yesterday there was an online buzz about KLM's press release about 'paying via social media'. KLM now also offers its customers the possibility to perform the financial transaction within a social media environment.
How does that work?
KLM sends the customer a special link via a private message on Facebook or DM on Twitter. The amount of the payment is already included in this link. The link takes you to a landing page, from where you can make the payment via credit card or via iDeal. When the payment has been made, the customer and the KLM social media agent will receive a confirmation.
