Remote work: a factor in reducing the employment gap between men and women

Post by mouakter16 »

It is no news that, even today in 2019, there are significant differences in salary, access and job opportunities between men and women. These differences, according to studies, seem to be less noticeable in the world of remote work, which means a great contribution for women in the world who continue to fight to get more spaces.

Remote work indicators and how they help reduce the gap
The factors in which a difference in work in favor of men can be observed are access to management positions, salary differences for the same role, mobility and promotion, and, especially, the possibility of being able to get a job in certain areas, mainly concentrated by men.

A survey by Ultimate Software has shown that in jobs “outside the office” some of the negative indicators have reversed trends. For example, in a traditional job, 35% of women had been promoted to better positions, compared to 43% of men. In contrast, in teleworking, 57% of women had achieved job mobility, compared to 51% of men.

In turn, 80% of women said that the remote work environment is more favorable for growth in their professions, which translates into better job positions and, especially, into positions where they feel more comfortable. On the other hand, for men this percentage is lower, since their opportunities are greater in both areas.

A better (and fairer) work environment
In addition to the above statistics, women who work virtually or remotely have indicated that their opinions are taken into account more in meetings, unlike in an office, where men tend to monopolize the interventions. Women have expressed feeling more valued when they work remotely than when they do so under the logic of an office or with “face-to-face” contact.

It is also estimated that 51% of women leave or are fired due to maternity. When hong kong telegram mobile phone number list working remotely, there is the benefit of being able to meet the needs of motherhood without neglecting work.

Latin America: a difficult but advancing niche
Latin America is one of the regions where, unfortunately, the gender gap is still high. Fortunately, many women who are able to perceive this activate work networks to really access significant positions. These are jobs in the areas in which they were trained, jobs that present challenges and are not monotonous or automatic, given that in reality.

One of these large networks is the one promoted by “She Works”, a platform to connect women, especially Spanish-speaking women, with jobs from all over the world, where they are hired for their experience and training, and are not limited as is the case with traditional jobs. It was conceived by Silvina Moschini, and currently has a community of 20 thousand users. These spaces, if one takes into account that in Latin American countries the gender gap is 30%, are necessary, because they condense the best of technological advances, for a common good, such as equality in the world of work.

There is no doubt that many measures still need to be taken to ensure that the world of work functions in an equal manner for both men and women. But it is undoubtedly essential to highlight these aspects in the new work modalities, which have not only changed traditional paradigms but, more importantly, have balanced the books.
