In the beginning there was PageRank. Then Matt Cutts made it clear, once and for all, that this metric, largely related to the presence of backlinks or incoming links, is not that important. Or rather, it should NEVER be your final goal.
Google PageRank Updates: Matt Cutts' Words
Pagerank: Who was he?
But let me take a little step back and try to explain to you what PageRank is.
When a user searches on Google, in order for the search engine to be able to show relevant results, it is necessary to properly order the indexed pages. To do this, a good algorithm is needed that is capable of evaluating the quality and relevance of the search results.
After all, Google is nothing more than a machine and namibia phone number can in no way read and interpret – as a human could do (for now at least) – text, images and other types of multimedia content.
For this reason, search engines use more or less refined and intelligent algorithms to “read”, interpret and, consequently, order the results of the search query in the most appropriate way.
The quantity – but especially the quality – of incoming links is still one of the key parameters of these algorithms.
In other words, if a site is popular enough and receives many inbound links, its content will most likely be rewarded with a good positioning in the SERP.
The aim of PageRank, therefore, is to determine, objectively and through a numerical value between 0 and 10, the popularity of the site in question.
