The Dutch government has established a legal obligation through the Temporary Decree on Digital Accessibility for Government . This decree stipulates that government websites and (mobile) russia telegram data apps must be accessible to everyone. They do this by complying with the technical guidelines of WCAG 2.1 . Since 23 September 2020, government agencies have also been required to create and publish an accessibility statement for all their websites . This applies to apps from 23 June 2021. But is your website accessible and usable for everyone if you comply with WCAG?
What does that obligation look like?
The Temporary Decree states that your website is fully accessible if it meets 50, mainly technical, criteria of WCAG 2.1 A and AA. The law gives government agencies the space to take the time to meet these criteria. In addition, governments can indicate that certain measures require a disproportionate effort, which means that they should fall outside the obligation.
That is why every government agency must publish an accessibility statement since 23 September. This describes to what extent the website already complies with the accessibility requirements of the WCAG, which measures are being taken to improve accessibility and according to which schedule these proposed measures are being realised. A statement stating that one is aware that a website does not comply and that no measures have yet been taken is sufficient for the time being. And you can see in the register that many of these types of statements were issued around 23 September.
